Course 309 - Fund Raising Basics (3 credits) 

Along with an introduction to the essential elements of fundraising; direct mail, capital campaigns; annual funds, etc., this course is intended to help the student to develop a Biblical perspective of development. This course counts toward credit as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE Certification).

  • Why is giving so important?
  • Why is fundraising a godly and God-honoring calling?
Week Two

The Foundation and the Goals of Fundraising

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer these questions:

  • What does God say about giving?
  • How should we understand the fundraising function in our organization?
  • How are we doing in presenting our case to the public?

 

Week Three

Overview of our Donors

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer these questions:

    • Who are our donors?
    • Why and how do they give?
    • How can we discover who is who?


Week Four

Development = Donor Ministry

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer these questions:

  • How do we nurture our donors and minister to them?
  • How do we insure that we act ethically towards our donors?
  • How do we communicate with those closest to the ministry?
Week Five

Inviting People In

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer this question:

How do we invite people to become involved in the ministry, especially using:
  • Direct Mail
  • Telephone
  • Special Events
Week Six

Inviting Organizations In

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer this question:
  • How do we invite foundations, corporations and organizations to become involved in the ministry?
Week Seven

Encouraging Lifelong Commitment

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer this question:
  • How can we cultivate donors so that they commit to make major lifetime and legacy gifts to our ministry?
Week Eight

Planning for the Future

Completing this week’s lessons should enable you to answer these questions:
  • How can I know if my organization is ready for a major expansion that will require a capital campaign?
  • How do I prepare for a capital campaign?
  • How do I successful conduct and complete a capital campaign?
Week Nine

Putting It All Together

Completing this week’s lesson should enable you to answer these questions:
  • How is my organization doing in its development function?
  • What does it do well?
  • What does it need to improve?
You should also be confident, through a review of your notes, that you can prove your learning of fundraising fundamentals in next week’s final exam.
