(May 16, 2007) Two BA Degrees Conferred at 2007 City Vision College Graduation
Marcus Burrier has earned the Bachelor of Arts in Missions. He is 23 years old and lives in Des Moines, IA. Marcus grew up in a Christian family. He says that he truly began to understand what Christ did for him when I was 15 and battling with cancer. “Jesus saved me from physical death with healing me from cancer,” he says, “and I also now understand that He first saved me from spiritual death due to the sin in my life.”
Marcus completed a one-year internship at Hope Ministries in Des Moines. He was first introduced to rescue ministry by his father and sister who both work at the mission. At first, Marcus found working with the homeless a bit uncomfortable but he has grown to love the ministry. He now feels that Rescue Missions is the next season in life where the LORD is leading him. Marcus has been married two years to Kelli and they are now looking forward to finding an opportunity to serve the Lord together.
Kathy Hyden has also earned the Bachelor of Arts in Missions. She is 52, lives in Cottage Hills, IL and is a CSAC II certified addiction counselor, having worked in the chemical dependency field for over seven years. Through her year of studies with City Vision College, she worked as a counselor with the St. Patrick Center in downtown St. Louis. At the center she worked alongside her husband, Jack who just recently received his pastoral license in the Church of the Nazarene.
Kathy was just 20 hours away from a degree in Psychology at a secular university when she found City Vision College on the Internet. She enrolled immediately. Why? According to Kathy, helping people is much more than addressing their psychological needs. She believes God led her to take the City Vision College courses to grow spiritually, to learn, to and gain a new Christian perspective on serving the needy.
Just before completing her studies, Kathy became manager of the Salvation Army Booth House Emergency Shelter, Alton, IL, which is also in the St. Louis Area. She says. “With the move to Salvation Army, I can serve my community while learning many new aspects of leadership.”

(May 23, 2006) City Vision College Partners with NET Training Institute:
City Vision College has begun developing a second degree completion program; a Bachelor of Arts in Addiction Studies. A certificate of completion will also be available to students who complete the required courses. One of the goals of the program is to assist Christian workers to prepare for the addiction counselor certification process.
To accomplish this, AGRM has entered into a partnership with the NET Training Institute of Orlando, FL, a world leader in training Christian counselors to work with addicts and alcoholics. NET Training Institute was founded by Dr. Jean and Charles LaCour in 1996 to meet the training needs of the Florida Network on Addictions begun in the 1980’s. Many of the FloridaNET ministries trace their roots or inspiration to Dunklin Memorial Camp, a men’s residential program located in Okeechobee, Florida, founded by Mickey and Laura Maye Evans
Since its inception, NTI has served over 1,000 students from around the world. Additionally, they have developed a series of self-study courses that are currently approved by NAADAC, the association for addiction professionals, for CEU training. These courses will be the foundation of these three- credit City Vision College courses:
- Recovery Dynamics
- Drugs of Abuse
- Counseling Foundations
- Help for Alcoholics
- Counseling Skills
- Mental Illness and Addiction
- Ethics in Addiction Counseling
- Sexual Issues in Addiction
- Family Issues and Recovery
This initiative was launched thanks to a grant from the Grizzard Company.
(January 13, 2006) Two Study Tracks, New Courses in Development:
Students will soon be able to pursue to different options for their City Vision College studies, Ministry or Management. To facilitate this, six new courses are in the latter stages of development.
Urban Evangelism & Discipleship will focus on spiritual care at the rescue mission.
Life Skills Training is designed to help rescue mission workers to impart essential life skills to those to whom they minister. Included are such topics as literacy, employment, readiness, and financial management.
The Theology & Strategy of Urban Mission course goes more deeply into the Biblical mandate for urban ministry and presents some of the global issues that impact the lives of city dwellers.
The current Counseling at Urban Missions course will become two courses; Counseling in the City and Addiction Counseling. These courses will take a more in-depth approach to counseling the people who look to urban missions for help.
Case Management: Ministering to the Whole Person is a project of AGRM’s Women and Family Track. Its focus is imparting skills that will equip rescue mission workers to more effectively organize the people-helping process.
One new management-oriented course is also planned; Financial Management, which will deal with budgeting and other strategic issues for rescue mission administrators.
Tentatively, the first of these courses will be offered in Summer 2006.
