Transfer Credit Policies
Transfer Credits Required for the Degree Program
To enroll in either the degree completion or certificate programs at City Vision College, prospective students must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. The college must receive official proof of graduation in the form of a high school or college transcript or GED certificate.
Because City Vision College does not offer a full four year program, students who enroll in the degree completion program must have transfer credits from other accredited institutions of higher learning. A total of 120 total college credits is required to earn a bachelor's degree. A maximum of 90 transfer credits will be accepted toward the degree. The final 30 credit hours must come from courses offered by City Vision College.
Transfer credits must be from schools that are accredited by a body that is recognized by the US Department of Education. Non-US institutions must have an accepted foreign equivalent from an institution listed in the International Handbook of Universities.
See Transfer Credit Considerations to determine which courses fulfill our General Studies requirements and which types of accreditation we will accept.
It is the student's responsibility to contact academic institutions at which they have studied to ask them send an official copy of his or her transcript directly to the City Vision College registrar's office. These must be official transcripts issued by the college or university. Photocopies or faxes will not be accepted.
Transfer credit is granted only for courses in which the equivalent to City Vision College’s standard for a “C” (average) or better has been earned, and which fit the college's academic program requirements. Courses in which a grade of “pass” is received must be certified by the school as being equivalent to City Vision College’s standard for a “C” or higher in order to be accepted in transfer.
City Vision will also allow students to test out of up to 30 hours of college credit. See the information about Credit by Examination to learn more about this option.
Another inexpensive way to gain credit that can be transferred to City Vision College is to take online courses through StraigerLine. A full year of college courses can be taken for about $1,000.00.
Those who have served in the US military, worked in government, or received CEUs from certain companies and organizations may also be eligible to receive college credits for work-related training. Check with the Transcript Service of the American Council on Education (acenet.edu).
Transfer Credits for Students Outside of North America
For foreign students, we use the transcript evaluation services of World Education Services.
Transcripts and official documents must be in English or be accompanied by an official translation into English. Where official transcripts are unobtainable due to circumstances beyond the student’s control, City Vision College may accept for review a valid affidavit that substantiates the student’s academic record. In all cases, City Vision College reserves the right to determine whether it will accept transfer credits from another academic institution.
Transferring Credits from City Vision College
Students may also take City Vision College courses and apply them toward a program at another college or university. While there has been on-going debate about regional vs. national accreditation, only a few institutions of higher learning have ever refused to accept transfer credits or degrees earned from City Vision College.
Therefore, we do encourage potential students to check first with the receiving schools to make sure they recognize institutions that are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. DETC is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
Christian colleges and universities that are accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education generally accept City Vision College credits as long was they fit within a student's academic program. And, members of CHEA's Higher Education Transfer Alliance have also agreed to take transfer credits from City Vision College.
Note: If your school is not on this list, that does not mean that they will not accept transfer credit, only that there is not a previous agreement.
