Urban Ministry Internship Program

The City Vision College Internship program combines an on-site urban ministry service learning experience with online distance education. With our "learning while doing" approach, interns serve at approved training sites in roles relevant to the courses they are taking online.

  • 35 hour/week work-study Internship provides room and board and free tuition in City Vision College
  • 20 hour/week work-study provides free tuition in City Vision College

Both positions are a one-year commitment, and may be extended by mutual agreement.

Benefits to Interns

  • Tuition for a full year of college paid by hosting organziation
  • Housing and meals is provided by the hosting organization
  • Some (not all) internships also come with a monthly stipend
  • Because their tuition is paid, students will receive any Pell grant or other federal financial aid paid as cash payment (up to $5,550) and may use the funds for other education-related purposes or living expenses
  • Finish your bachelor's degree in Missions, Nonprofit Management or Addiction Studies at City Vision College
    • The 30 college credits interns earn can also be transferred to other colleges and universities. 

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien in the US or Canada.  We do not place foreign nationals in internships unless they already have an organization in the United States that will sponsor them.  (See PDF for instructions)

Position Description

 

Student Services Intern (Boston Only at TechMission Headquarters)

The Student Services Intern is a full-time internship position (35 hours/week) that helps provide support for students in City Vision College. Duties may include: maintaining accurate student academic records, answering and making phone calls with prospective and current students; provides student support in the admissions process; maintains and integrity of student registration and enrollment verification, including transcript pre-evaluation; Provides student support in all aspects of enrollment, course registration and orientation; Maintains accurate and complete individual student files; Serves as resource person on matters related to graduation and degree requirements.

Grant Writer Intern (Boston Only at TechMission Headquarters)

The Grant Writer is a full time position which is responsible for writing grants, managing existing grants, and assisting with development work with the following duties: Writing grants to corporate foundations, private foundations and government funding sources; Managing existing grants including tracking data, compiling evaluations and writing reports to existing funding sources; Researching grant opportunities and developing lists of potential funding sources; Supervising the development of a donor base of individuals; Assisting with any other fund raising, development or administrative activities as needed.

Administrative Intern (Boston Only at TechMission Headquarters)
The Administrative Intern is a full time position which is responsible for providing administrative support for TechMission and its programs.  This could include managing and entering records for City Vision College or TechMission Corps; working on spreadsheets related to TechMission's finances; managing the physical facilities of the office including ordering supplies and cleaning; proofreading documents; and assisting staff with any administrative duties as necessary.

Rescue Mission Worker 
This City Vision College internship position will assist with the daily operations of a rescue mission. Duties may include assisting in the counseling of homeless individuals and those suffering from substance abuse, ensuring the safety of those inside the mission, assisting with food preparation and service, and assisting with the management and maintenance of the building facilities. A typical day of work for the Rescue Mission Worker involves working with the rescue mission staff to ensure that the mission's programs operate successfully and that those served by the mission remain safe, warm, and well-fed. 

Graphic Designer Intern
Offered in: Boston at TechMission headquarters
The Graphics Specialist Volunteer Coordinator is supports the graphics and web design needs of TechMission’s online volunteer matching websites and tools (ChristianVolunteering.org, iVolunteering.org, Facebook apps, mobile app, etc.) and volunteer training websites (UrbanMinistry.org, UrbanResource.net, etc.) to recruit and train volunteers to serve at-risk communities in the United States. Duties include: Designing web pages, web templates and print materials using Dreamweaver, Photoshop, HTML, CSS and Javascript to support TechMission’s online volunteer matching and training websites & platforms. A typical week might include 10 hours working on a new menus system to improve volunteer matching rate, 5 hours designing online banners that partners can used to drive volunteers to our sites, 19 hours designing and improving the content layout for two web pages or Facebook pages, and 1 hours designing a volunteer recruitment flyer for print.

Youth Program Intern
This  position will assist with a after-school youth program based in a church or faith-based organization, serving through mentoring, providing basic technology activities, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support. A typical day of work for the After School Program Intern involves preparing lessons and activities for the participating youth, assisting them with their homework, leading lessons and activities (especially with regard to technology), supervising their snack and outdoor play sessions, supervising volunteers, assisting with behavior management, keeping accurate records on program participants, soliciting and managing in-kind donations, and assisting the Site Director in the day-to-day administration of the program.
