Sunday, February 29, 1 - 2:30 pm

for the Cambridge Vineyard

at Morse School in the Music Room

TechMission was launched out of the PREP Computer Ministry which was started within the Cambridge Vineyard (yeah!), and we are excited continue our partnership with CVF through the Spring ‘04 training session and volunteer opportunities. This training session is intended for anyone in the Cambridge Vineyard who may be interested in volunteering or just wants to learn more about cross cultural ministry. We’ll be training you to do cross cultural ministry in Boston with a particular focus on effective ministering across socioeconomic differences and within Black and Latino communities. Get tools you can use as you love people in Jesus’ name!!

Volunteer Opportunities

Teaching Assistants. Volunteers assist with computer classes with unemployed and low-income adults for 2 hours on Saturdays for a 6, 8 or 10-week period in the PREP Computer Ministry in Dorchester. This mainly involves helping students keep up with the instructor as he/she goes through tasks on the computer. You need know only basic computer skills to assist with most classes!

Computer Instructors. Volunteers prepare and teach lessons for computer classes at PREP in Dorchester on Saturdays or weekdays. Classes include Microsoft Office as well as more advanced media applications and certifications. Volunteer instructors often pair up as co-instructors to help distribute the workload over longer courses, so check out this awesome chance for teamwork!

Mentors and Tutors. Volunteers work with a high-school student, either as a college prep mentor or as a tutor, at the Higher Education Resource Centers (HERC) in the South End or Dorchester. The HERCs encourage urban youth to dream about their future, graduate from high school and pursue higher education! If you’re outside of Rt 128, there are also opportunities at HERCs in Lawrence, Brockton and Worcester.

Bi-lingual Teaching Assistants (Spanish-English). Volunteers assist with computer classes in Spanish with unemployed and low-income adults for 2 hours on Saturdays for a 6-8 week period at Congregación León de Judá. You would be helping students keep up with the instructor as he/she goes through tasks on the computer. Ability to speak conversational Spanish and basic computer skills needed for most classes. Que rico – venga a practicar español con nosotros!!
