Description

 

In Boston we have opportunities for service through the following types of programs:

 

After school programs serving at-risk children by integrating technology in their after school programs to provide them with a safe environment that encourages academic, social and spiritual development.

 

Teen programs serving at-risk youth by providing academic support, college readiness, technology training and spiritual development.

 

Computer classes for workforce development offering youth and adults in at-risk communities a range of courses from computer basics to specialized certifications, enabling them to get computer skills to make a living and a spiritual foundation to make a life.

 

1. Adminstrative Assistant

Description

 

Inner-city ministries need your help! We have after-school programs, computer centers, and college prep programs that need administrative help. File, answer e-mails, research grants, answer the phone,etc. Any admin help that you can give will have far-reaching effects in these ministries! Skills

 

Volunteers should be proficient with e-mail; knowledge of Microsoft Office may be required as well.

 

2. After-School Assistant

Description

 

Do you have a heart for inner-city children? A number of ministries need assistants at their after-school programs! You could tutor, help with homework, share a skill, prepare a snack ... there are many needs. Many centers would love for you to lead the children in a fun activity. Experience working with learning disabilities would especially be appreciated. Most programs go from 2-6 pm Monday-Friday and are located in Dorchester and Roxbury. Many sites also have summer programs that need volunteers. If interested call Theresa Musante at (617) 282-9798 ext 6#. 3. Behavior Management Specialist

Description

 

Behavior Management Specialist sought to speak with parents of elementary-aged children on parenting techniques. This could be a one-time event or something that is done on a regular basis. If interested please contact Theresa Musante at 617-282-9798 ext 6# or theresa@techmission.org.

 

4. SAT Prep Training

Description

 

Volunteers needed to tutor inner-city students for the SAT. Many of these students will be the first in their family to attend college! For this position, a college student or recent grad would be ideal. Training and curriculum are provided for the classes, which are held through the summer on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-9 pm. Students also need tutoring in other academic subjects. Classes have already begun - we would love to have more volunteers come on board!

5. Summer Camp Assistant

Description

 

Do Good. Volunteer. Do you have a heart for inner-city youth? Come help out at one of a number of summer camps in Dorchester and Roxbury with children aged 4-14. General Assistants are needed as well as those with experience with disabilites and those who could teach drama, music, art, etc. Someone who could come in just to pass out lunches would be appreciated. Camps generally go Monday to Friday 8 am to 6 pm. Commit as much time as you can! The kids will appreciate it! We're looking for volunteers who enjoy working with children and have patience. We also require a background check.
