ORG700: Doctoral Orientation & Research Technologies 

Course Description

This course provides an orientation to the doctoral program and research tools. In particular, the course will provide an introduction to how to use Google Gemini Pro and NotebookLM as AI tools for research and ethical use of AI tools. The course will also train students in the use of library resources and citation managers. The final project for the course will be to develop a learning plan for your doctoral program.

Course Outcomes

  1. Develop effective research strategies to locate, evaluate, and manage scholarly information using university library databases and citation management software.
  2. Utilize AI-powered tools, specifically Google Gemini Pro and NotebookLM, to support research activities such as literature synthesis, idea generation, and data analysis.
  3. Apply ethical principles of academic integrity to the use of artificial intelligence in research, ensuring proper attribution and responsible scholarship.
  4. Synthesize program requirements, university resources, and personal research interests to construct a comprehensive and actionable learning plan for your doctoral studies.
