ADC503: Ethical & Legal Issues in Counseling

Course Description

Students will become familiar with the ethical principles and codes of conduct governing the addiction counseling profession, as well as developing an understanding of legal statutes and regulations. Students will compare the differing ethical codes that govern different bodies, especially with regard to challenging issues such as dual relationships. They will also assess these codes from a Christian perspective. Students will analyze complex scenarios, apply ethical decision-making models, and navigate the legal responsibilities of counseling practice. Finally, students will consider the role of self-care strategies in ensuring that they can maintain an successful counseling practice for the long term, while avoiding moral failures.
