ORG723: Nonprofit Executive Leadership & Board Development

Course Description

This course provides an overview of nonprofit executive leadership including organizational strategy, the role of the executive leadership/team, community building, organizational systems and running effective meetings. The course also focuses on nonprofit board development and centers around a final project where the student creates a Nonprofit Board Manual that includes Board Member Orientation, Expectations, Board Policies and Organizational Background. In this course, you will synthesize a major doctoral project combining theoretical and practical research related to Nonprofit Executive Leadership & Board Development, specifically for your context.

Course Outcomes

  1. Develop an executive leadership training guide for potential executive leaders in your organization covering organizational strategy, role of executive leadership/team, community building, organizational systems and running effective meetings.
  2. Provide recommendations based on a Christian model for board leadership based on the unique needs of faith-based organizations.
  3. Write an executive summary of important aspects of executive leadership and running nonprofit and ministry boards.
  4. Evaluate an organization and board based on governance best practices and provide recommendations.
  5. Create a Nonprofit Board Manual that includes Board Member Orientation, Expectations, Board Policies and Organizational Background.

  • 7b. Nonprofit Program Leadership & Social Entrepreneurship. Improve the effectiveness of nonprofit programs by implementing best practices.
  • 7c. Education Leadership and Innovation. Apply disruptive and continuous innovation principles to designing courses and programs to provide radically affordable and practical online education.
  • 7d. Organizational Culture and Change Management. Develop and implement plans to improve organizational health and adapt to change.
  • 7e. Trauma-Informed Counseling Management. Develop and implement plans to establish trauma-informed culture of health throughout an organization.
