CVC331: Christian Community Development

Course Description

This course introduces students to the theory and practice of Christian community development in an increasingly interconnected, urban world.  Students will be equipped to develop church-based, holistic community development strategies that cultivate community assets and empower indigenous leadership in low-income communities.  Special emphasis will be placed on issues of fundraising, shared vision, and resource development for various anti-poverty strategies.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  1. Introduce students to the philosophy and practice of Christian community development.
  2. Empower ministry leaders to foster holistic, church-based development strategies in their respective communities.
  3. Create a framework for empowering communities and nurturing indigenous leadership.
  4. Provide tools for asset-based strategies, accessing community resources, fundraising, and networking around shared vision.
